Sinajana, Guam - October 23, 2025

In celebration of Arbor Month, the Northern Guam Soil and Water Conservation District (NGSWCD) joined the Guam Department of Agriculture’s Forestry and Soil Resources Division and Guam Police Department Central Precinct law enforcement officers to plant 24 native trees outside the Guam Police Department’s Central Precinct Command in Sinajana.

The initiative supports this year’s Arbor Month theme, “Green Spaces, Shared Places: Enhancing Our Forest Together,” emphasizing the shared responsibility of preserving Guam’s natural resources across agencies and the community.

The event brought together forestry staff, police officers, and conservation volunteers to expand green spaces, prevent soil erosion, and strengthen biodiversity around the precinct. The collaboration also included support from the Sinajana Mayor’s Office, KUPU Corps, and Smart Trees Pacific.

“This effort reflects what we stand for — protecting our island’s resources through collaboration,” said Christine Fejeran, Forestry Chief at the Guam Department of Agriculture. She emphasized that Arbor Month coincides with Fire Prevention Week, reminding the public that preventing wildfires is essential to keeping Guam’s forests healthy.

The Northern Guam Soil and Water Conservation District continues to support projects that protect soil, promote conservation practices, and strengthen partnerships that benefit the island’s natural environment. NGSWCD will join additional outreach and planting activities throughout the year to help build a greener, stronger, and more resilient Guam.
