Mangliao, Guam — On Friday, January 23, 2026, the Northern Guam Soil & Water Conservation District (NGSWCD) actively participated in the Service Learning Educator Summit at the University of Guam’s School of Business and Public Administration outdoor atrium, engaging with 50–60 teachers and school administrators from public, private, charter, and DODEA schools across the island.
NGSWCD representatives hosted an outreach table, sharing resources, programs, and hands-on opportunities for students to participate in soil and water conservation projects. Educators explored ways to bring Guam’s natural environment into the classroom while fostering stewardship of the island’s wildlife, waterways, and other natural resources. This Summit provided an excellent platform to connect with educators and demonstrate how students can actively contribute to preserving Guam’s unique environment.
The Summit, themed “Teaching and Learning through Heritage Habitats,” emphasized integrating Guam’s natural heritage into classroom learning through interactive, service-based activities. Keynote speaker Michelle Crisostomo of Guåhan Sustainable Culture encouraged educators to use heritage habitats as a framework for engaging students in meaningful, community-oriented learning experiences.
The NGSWCD remains committed to partnering with local schools to support experiential learning, promote environmental stewardship, and empower students to take an active role in protecting Guam’s natural resources.
